A Major Earthquake Of 6.8 Magnitude Makes A Strike On Solomon Islands

A devastating earthquake of the intensity of 6.8 on the Richter scale struck the Solomon Islands in the area of west pacific coast on Sunday. However, there have been no sirens of warning regarding the eruption of the tsunami nor has any damage been reported so far. As per the geological and seismic experts, the earthquake made a strike at a depth of 60 km with an epicenter of 102 km. The exact spot of strike of the earthquake was the south west of kira kira located o the Makira Island.

As per the warning center that deals with the pacific tsunamis, there is no need to worry on the account of this earthquake but warned that such earthquakes can be devastative in the circumference area of 100 kilometers from the center of eruption. The high level authorities and researchers associated with the center categorically said that preventive measures should be taken in the epicenter region of the earthquake. There was a revision in the measurement of scale of the earthquake when initially it was found to be 7.1 on the Richter scale.

Since the January of 2010, the Solomon Islands have been the hot targets of the earthquakes and the largest of them was 7.2 on the Richter scale. This generated a local tsunami as high as eight feet. This earthquake left as many as one thousand people in the island homeless. The much disastrous was the one that came in the month of august 2007 killing more than 50 and leaving thousands homeless. This quake was 8.o on the Richter scale and generated a devastating tsunami.
